A Quick Event Security Checklist

A Quick Event Security Checklist | Delta Scientific

Security is vital to ensuring that an important event or celebration does not turn into a tragedy. We at Delta Scientific want your event to be successful. To that end, we offer this event security checklist to help you anticipate potential threats and prepare to mitigate them before they have a chance to cause any serious harm.

4 Things To Include on Your Event Security Checklist

Event security doesn’t just happen by accident. It takes careful planning ahead of time: imagining every possible contingency and knowing exactly how you will react should that contingency occur.

A checklist of matters of security that you have to address before the event can help you make sure that you do not overlook anything in the lead-up to the event.

1. Have an Emergency Response Plan

In the event of an emergency situation, such as a fire or a rampaging vehicle, you need to have a plan in place so that everyone knows how to respond. This includes liaising with emergency services as well as debriefing your staff. Have a chain of command in place to facilitate communication in an efficient and effective manner.

2. Control Traffic Flow

A significant part of event security involves controlling the flow of traffic in and out of the venue. This includes directing cars in the direction they are supposed to go and preventing them from traveling in the wrong direction, either on purpose or by accident.

Clear, effective communication is an important aspect of traffic control. Parking lot warning signs that indicate that drivers are traveling in the wrong direction can go a long way toward avoiding accidents. For those who disregard instructions and try to travel the wrong way on purpose, our traffic teeth can be a deterrent.

3. Delineate and Protect Pedestrian Areas

There will probably be areas at your event venue that are only for pedestrians. You need to make sure that these are clearly marked so that pedestrians know where to go and drivers of vehicles know to stay away.

Unfortunately, there may be people at your event who attend with the purpose of driving onto pedestrian areas and trying to hurt people and cause chaos. Our portable bollards are easy to put up before your event and take down again afterward. Nevertheless, they are effective at stopping a 15,000-pound vehicle traveling 30 to 50 miles per hour, depending on which variety you choose.

Our portable bollards are customizable and eye-catching, meaning that pedestrians shouldn’t accidentally stray from the path you have established for them. Because they are portable, you can put them away until you need them again if you intend to host an annual event.

4. Keep Re-Evaluating

If you do host an annual event and you always do things the exact same way, it may give bad actors an opportunity to study your setup and learn your vulnerabilities. You may be able to prevent this by doing an evaluation after the event to determine what worked well and what could be improved for next year. Keep re-evaluating every year to improve your setup and keep potential bad actors guessing.
