Delta Scientific’s High Security Bollard Systems Protect NASDAQ Facilities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VALENCIA, CALIF. – November 14, 2001 – As part of a security upgrade, NASDAQ recently completed the installation of Delta Scientific High Security Bollard Systems to protect roadways to its facilities. NASDAQ is employing Delta’s highest crash-rated bollard system, which will stop and destroy the front suspension system, steering linkage, engine crank case and portions of the drive train of a 15,000 pound vehicle. The bollard systems carry a Department of Defense and Department of State rating of K4/L2. These bollards will also stop and destroy much larger vehicles than tested at very high velocities.

“The NASDAQ Security Department must be congratulated for their foresight,” emphasizes David Dickinson, Delta Scientific Senior Vice President. “They planned and implemented their security upgrade well over a year prior to September 11. The Delta systems are now up and operational when the threats to the people and facility are highest.”

NASDAQ’s bollards are raised and lowered into the guard position by a remotely controlled precision power system. Under emergency conditions, they can be raised in as little as a single second.
Collaborating with a local prime contractor/installer, Delta Scientific supplied technical supervision services that included layout, construction supervision, final wiring, termination and system start-up. Delta field engineers also provided operational and maintenance training to NASDAQ personnel.
Delta Scientific has supplied similar bollards and other counter-terrorist barricade systems to over 160 U.S. embassies and consulates in 130-plus countries. In the United States alone, Delta has secured over 110 Federal buildings, including courthouses and FBI locations, since the Oklahoma City bombing (April 19, 1995). Over 85 percent of all U.S. nuclear power plants are protected by Delta vehicle barricade systems.
