Delta’s New Portable Plate Barricade Provides Fast Deployment Against Vehicle Assaults and Thefts

For High Traffic Locations/No Excavation or Foundation Required

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VALENCIA, CALIF. – October 22, 2001 – Able to be deployed in high traffic locations for full manual or automatic operation within two hours, Delta Scientific’s quick deployment modular Series DSC900 Barrier can be rapidly set-up on existing concrete or asphalt roads, level compacted soils and other hard surfaces. No excavation or sub-surface preparation is required. The plate barrier lies level to the ground to allow vehicles to pass and is raised or lowered into position either hydraulically or manually. The weight of the plate barrier is balanced by a patented Delta Scientific hydraulic/pneumatic system.

“As a result of the September 11 strikes against the Pentagon and World Trade Center, both the government and private organizations have asked us to create a personnel protection barrier that can be installed quickly and easily for heavily traveled entrances,” explains David Dickinson, Delta Scientific senior vice president. “Using our successful DSC500 portable drop arm beam barrier, employed successfully by NATO in Kosovo and elsewhere, as the basis of the new design, our DSC900 portable plate barrier provides security against vehicle-based terrorism or thefts for high-cycle locations such as the entrances to large office facilities, government agencies and military bases.”

A phalanx-type rising plate barrier is mounted within multiple inertial pods. They can be set on paved roads and driveways, undisturbed soil or any combination. No excavation or foundation is required. The unfilled pods weigh less than 700 pounds (318 kg) and can be filled with concrete, sand, gravel or other available media either at the site or from a remote location. Pods can be moved using a small forklift, pallet jack, crane or handcart. The portable system can be operated using any Delta hydraulic, pneumatic or manual system including fully automatic access or remote control by hardwire or RF links.

“In today’s heightened security climate, organizations want to block entrances to their facilities as quickly as possible,” Dickinson adds. “With this barrier, they can begin installation in the morning and have protection before lunch.”

Engineering, product installation and maintenance service are also provided through Delta’s Fredericksburg, Virginia office.
