Delta Scientific Ships First Counter-Terrorist Barrier of $25 Million U.S. Air Force Order

Largest Contract Ever for Barricades

Barrier Stops and Destroys a 15,000 lb (66.7 kN) Vehicle Traveling 50 MPH (80 KPH)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VALENCIA, CALIF. – June 24, 2004 – Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems used in the United States and internationally, today announced that the first of 541 Delta DSC501 barriers was shipped today to an undisclosed Air Force base. With this estimated $25 million order, the largest contract for barricades ever, the U.S. Air Force is deploying very high security barriers at its facilities around the globe. The contract was presented to Delta Scientific in May (2004) and will be completed within eight to 14 months.

“Not only is this an order for hardware, but it illustrates how we have become trusted advisors for our customers,” explains Delta Scientific Senior Vice President David Dickinson. “We were able to show the Air Force and share with them how we have successfully implemented a similar massive global project which we have undertaken with the U.S. Navy. In addition, the opening of our new Palmdale facility next week effectively doubles our manufacturing space, allowing us to quickly provide protection to these airbases and facilities.”

Major projects are not an unknown at Delta, Dickinson added. The company has also supplied its counter-terrorist barricade systems to over 160 U.S. embassies and consulates in 130-plus countries as well as those of other nations. In the United States alone, Delta has secured over 110 Federal buildings, including courthouses and FBI locations. Over 85 percent of all U.S. nuclear power plants are protected by Delta vehicle barricade systems.

Delta Scientific systems protect the U.S. Capital and other Washington landmark buildings, high-rises throughout the world, Broadway pedestrians in New York City, corporate facilities, the Singapore parliament, Hoover Dam and other power and water infrastructure locales, European castles and the private homes of celebrities and influential people in Beverly Hills and other upscale communities.
“This $25 million Air Force order is a culmination of all that activity and the beginning of a series of new initiatives for terrorist targets around the world,” emphasizes Dickinson. “From amusement parks to museums, we are installing anti-terrorist vehicle barriers in places none of us would have imagined prior to 9-11.”
