Delta Finding Major Demand for Multiple K12 Barriers

Delta’s Department of State-certified barricades, bollards and gates provide the utmost in anti-terrorist vehicle control

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VALENCIA, CALIF.— October 9, 2003— With the nation’s continuing high-security alerts against terrorism, organizations are turning to the sturdiest anti-terrorist vehicle control equipment available, reports Delta Scientific, whose K12-certified barriers, bollards and gates will stop a 15,000 pound (66.7 kN) vehicle traveling 50 mph (80 kph) with zero penetration. In fact, most of the K12 barriers, bollards and gates will stop much heavier vehicles going faster than the K12 certification standard.

“We’ve had a significant increase in orders for our K12-certified barricades, bollards and gates,” reports David Dickinson, Delta Scientific senior vice president. “From military bases and government facilities to commercial buildings and corporate offices, we are seeing an increased demand for K12 vehicle control systems.”

In order to be certified by the Department of State, vehicle barriers must be tested by an independent crash test facility. “K” indicates kinetic energy during the crash test. The test specifies a perpendicular barrier impact by a 15,000 pound vehicle. For test purposes, K12 tests are preformed at speeds up to 50 mph.

Delta provides a variety of K12 solutions so that organizations can implement the appropriate unit for each individual location. Crash gates are available in both standard and swing versions for maximum flexibility. All of Delta’s K12 barriers and bollards can be lowered to allow authorized vehicles to pass. They accommodate difficult locations such as parking structure ramps, areas with sub-surface drainage problems and places where shallow foundations must be used to avoid underground conflicts, yet provide the protection of the K12 certification.

For example, the DSC501 Very High Security Barricade System not only survives a 15,000 lb. vehicle traveling at 50 mph, but continues to operate after such a 1.2 million foot pound impact. Upon extracting a truck after its crash test, this barricade was fully functional and performed another resounding 27,000 cycles with no wear. With its shallow foundation and aesthetic design, it is a major breakthrough in high duty, anti-terrorist barricades, eliminating the concerns of interference with buried pipes, power lines and fiber optic communication lines.

The Delta TT207S and TT207SFM hydraulic barricade system is a 108-inch moving wedge that is 38 inches high. It is available in widths up to 240 inches while the TT207SFM is used for the highest security applications and installs at difficult locations such as parking structure ramps or areas with sub-surface drainage problems. Both shallow-foundation and bolt-to-surface versions are available. The TT207SFM is a moving ramp barricade and is also available in widths up to 240 inches.

Delta’s DSC720 High Security Bollard system is its highest crash-rated bollard system. It stops and destroys much larger vehicles than those tested at very high velocities. Applications include federal and DOD facilities, embassies and high-profile, high-risk clients. Its height is 35 inches and its diameter is 12.75 to 13.25 inches. Bollard arrays of 1 to 6 or more can be packaged.

The TT280 linear crash gate and TT282 swing crash gates were created for highest security applications such as embassies, government facilities and corporate headquarters. The gate can be tailored to match the surrounding decor in a wide variety of architectural treatments.
