Delta’s Counter-Terrorist Barriers to Protect Florida State Capital Building in Tallahassee

SecureUSA Provides Installation, Service and Maintenance

VALENCIA, CALIF. – January 16, 2003 – To protect its citizens, employees, assets and facilities, the Florida Management Services Department is implementing Delta Scientific’s high security surface mounted barricades and plan to add decorative bollards in a later phase, to guard entrances at the Florida State Capital Building from vehicle assault. SecureUSA assisted with the design and layout of the perimeter barrier protection system.

“After a careful review of possible solutions, the Florida Management Services Department chose the SecureUSA/Delta partnership over other competitive solutions,” reports Bevan Clark, president of SecureUSA. “They were impressed with the proven reliability of the Delta barriers combined with the local installation, service and maintenance expertise we offer.”

Multiple entrances to the Tallahassee Capital Building will be protected in several phases. Delta SU-W207SFM and SU-W2015 crash-rated wedge barricades are currently installed. Used for intermediate security applications, the speed at which the barriers deploy can be fully adjusted to the security site and facility requirements. Similar barriers are used at the Wilmington, Del. and Miami Federal Courthouses and the GSA and Ronald Reagan buildings in Washington, DC.

“The high security decorative bollard systems are proposed for the members’ garage and will blend in with the aesthetics of the Florida State Capital Building,” Clark adds. “Ornamental trim is placed around the perimeter of the crash tube. They will also use proven Delta hydraulic power systems and controls to raise or lower the bollards to permit passage of authorized vehicles. In a crash test, these bollards stopped a 7.5 ton vehicle traveling at 44 mph (33,000 kg @ 70 kph). They carry a U.S. Department of State and DOD rating of K8, L2, the highest rating that the United States government has given to a bollard system.”
