Delta Barriers Provide Anti-Terrorist Protection at U.S. Embassy in Yemen
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VALENCIA, CALIF. – April 7, 2004 – The U.S. Department of State recently flew Delta Scientific team members and equipment to Yemen to replace non-functioning barriers of another brand at the U.S. embassy there. The emergency installation of Delta’s DSC501 barriers was completed in less than three weeks and received a favorable review from the U.S. State Department. The K12/L3 certified barricade is widely employed by federal buildings, military bases and embassies.
At the entrance, the DSC501 creates a sally-port with a crash-resistant gate to tightly control traffic into the embassy. The DSC501 is lowered to let in a car, while the gate in front of the car stays closed. The DSC501 in back then raises and the car is sandwiched between it and the gate. Once searched and OK’d, the gate opens and the car is allowed to enter the embassy.
“The DSC501, with its shallow foundation and aesthetic design, is a major breakthrough in anti-terrorist barricades,” says Scott Altizer, High Security Systems Applications Engineer at Delta. “The DSC501 barricade can stop a 20,000 pound truck moving at 70 mph, exceeding U.S. State Department requirements for its highest level of anti-terrorist vehicle barricades. This makes it a perfect choice for protecting extreme high security locations around the world.”
The DSC501 barrier’s shallow 18-inch foundation eliminates concerns of interference with buried pipes, power lines and fiber optic communications lines. Installation complexity, time, materials and corresponding costs are all reduced. The DSC501 is appropriate for high water table locations and areas with corrosive soils.
Front-face warning lights alert drivers that the barricade is in the “up” position. There is also an open area on the front for signage. Open channel construction allows the option of specifying hot dip galvanizing. To raise or lower the barricade, the DSC501 uses Delta’s proven hydraulic power systems and controls. The anti-terrorist barrier is operated with Delta control panels, card readers, keypads or radio controls.
“Delta Scientific’s DSC501 barricade simplifies installation while still providing maximum anti-terrorist protection. Whether installing barricades within an urban infrastructure or quickly implementing anti-terrorist measures on a remote military base, this barricade system provides security professionals with a new tool that installs faster and more efficiently,” Altizer asserts.
