Delta Scientific Provides Optional Electro-Mechanical Power Units to Operate Above-Grade Buttresses

Unique Locations that Can’t Use Hydraulics or Pneumatics Can Now Be Powered Electro-Mechanically/Plug into Standard Wall Socket

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PALMDALE, CALIF. – April 24, 2008 – Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems used in the United States and internationally, today announced an electro-mechanical power unit option for its DSC501, DSC1200, DSC2000 and TW2015 crash-rated, anti-terrorist vehicle control barriers. The optional power unit plugs into a standard 120v/15A wall socket as found in most guard posts or kiosks.

“There are some unique locations where the application may not lend itself to hydraulic or pneumatic units,” explains David Dickinson, Delta Scientific senior vice president. “For environmental reasons, some locations won’t allow oil. In other cases, the application simply demands a simpler, less complex solution. There can also be power availability issues. These locations can now use the electro-mechanical option.”

The DSC501 not only stops and destroys a 65,000-pound (29,545 kg) dump truck but the barricade continues to stand, preventing a potential second attack. With the DSC1200, installers can simply epoxy or bolt the barricade to an already-existing concrete slab. The DSC2000 high speed, high security, very shallow foundation barricade is Delta’s fastest, smallest and shallowest foundation barricade, created especially for high speed actuation and ease of installation. The TW2015 is a one-inch thick ramp that features quick installation. It is designed to install at difficult locations such as parking structure ramps or areas with sub-surface drainage problems and used for intermediate security applications.

In all cases, the barrier typically remains in the upright position to protect the facility from terrorists and errant drivers. To let authorized vehicles through, the barriers are lowered and then raised once again when the vehicle has passed. Besides electro-mechanically, all barriers can also be operated manually.

Barriers with the electro-mechanical option are now available.
