Delta Bollards Protect Reagan Library in California

Decorative Bollards, Perimeter Cabling System Secure Popular Former President’s Final Resting Place

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VALENCIA, CALIF. – November 16, 2004 – Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems used in the United States and internationally, today announced that its decorative bollards and perimeter cabling system are being used to protect the Ronald W. Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, Calif., where the former president is now buried. The bollards are designed to protect facilities from those not authorized to enter or others driving errant vehicles.

“Delta Scientific bollards are used around the globe to protect strategic and symbolic buildings such as embassies and houses of parliament,” says Scott Altizer, high security systems applications engineer at Delta Scientific. “The decorative bollards installed at the Ronald W. Reagan Presidential Library and Museum not only complement their surroundings aesthetically, but they can stop an attacking vehicle in its tracks.”

Dedicated by five American presidents on Nov. 4, 1991 this facility is much more than a library in the conventional sense. Hundreds of researchers visit Simi Valley each year to take advantage of the Library’s extensive archival holdings. There are nearly 50 million pages of documentation, more than 1.5 million photographs and large amounts of film and video tape available at the library. Visitors from all over the world have also come to the site to pay their final respects to former President Reagan, who was buried there in June.

With its vast cultural value, and abundant foot and vehicle traffic, security measures are paramount at the library site. Both DSC800 and TT210 bollard systems, and a perimeter cabling system, are used to protect pedestrians, the library and museum grounds.

DSC800 bollards, which lower for passing, are utilitarian or elegant, as the application requires. They are used with or without a decorative aluminum casting. The castings can be powder-coated and are available in a variety of styles. Architects are free to design location-specific versions to match the architecture of a given facility, including emblems or logos.

The TT210 bollards are used for intermediate level security applications, including government facilities, corporate headquarters and high value cargo depots. These bollards are also lowered for passage of authorized vehicles. They operate individually or in groups up to ten, and are typically spaced on four-foot centers.

In the United States alone, over 110 Federal buildings, including courthouses and FBI locations, use Delta’s anti-terrorist systems. Delta Scientific also supplies barriers, bollards and other counter-terrorist barricade systems to over 160 U.S. embassies and consulates in 130-plus countries.

“It is an honor to have our bollards and perimeter cabling systems installed at the Reagan Presidential Library,” Altizer adds.
