In Crash Test, Delta Anti-Terrorist Shallow Foundation Barricade Exceeds State Department Requirements

Fully Operational after 1.2 Million Foot Pound Collision

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VALENCIA, CALIF.—March 8, 2001—In a crash test held February 23, 2001, Delta Scientific’s new DSC501 barricade, set in a foundation only 18 inches (46 cm) deep, stopped a 15,000 pound (66.7 kN) truck moving at 50 mph (80 kph), exceeding U.S. State Department requirements for its highest level of anti-terrorist vehicle barricades. This K12/L3 certification is widely employed by federal buildings, military bases and embassies. Exceeding all requirements, the barricade was fully operational after the test truck was extracted.

The new DSC501 barrier features a shallow foundation that eliminates concerns of interference with buried pipes, power lines and fiber optic communications lines. With its 18-inch foundation, installation complexity, time, materials and corresponding costs are all reduced. The DSC501 is appropriate for high water table locations and areas with corrosive soils.

“Having the capability to survive and operate after this level of impact assures the safety and security of our customers,” emphasizes David Dickinson, Delta Scientific

Senior vice president. “The DSC501, with its shallow foundation and aesthetic design, is a major breakthrough in anti-terrorist barricades. Whether installing barricades within an urban infrastructure or needing to quickly implement anti-terrorist measures on a remote military base, this barricade system provides security professionals with a new tool that installs faster and more efficiently.”

Front face warning lights warn drivers that the barricade is in the “up” position. There is also an open area on the front for signage. Open channel construction allows the option of specifying hot dip galvanizing. To raise or lower the barricade, the DSC501 uses Delta’s proven hydraulic power systems and controls. The anti-terrorist barrier is operated with Delta control panels, card readers, keypads or radio controls. The DSC501 is in production and available now.
