Delta Provides Barriers for Rental Cars at Expanded Columbus (Ohio) Airport

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VALENCIA, CALIF. – April 20, 2000 – As part of a $92 million enhancement at the Port Columbus International Airport, Delta motorized traffic controllers have been installed by Signature Control Systems, LLC on the first two levels of the new multi-level parking garage. These levels accommodate 1200 rental vehicles, rental transaction counters and vehicle wash and fuel centers for the Avis, Hertz, Dollar, Budget, National and Alamo car rentals. The Delta equipment was specified by the rental agencies.

“Having used Delta equipment for many years, we find it is high quality and relatively easy to install and operate. The project took only three months,” avows Dan Floyd, president and CEO of Signature Control Systems, a 13-year-old integrator that specializes in the distribution, installation and support of advanced vehicle access control systems. “A few companies still maintain remote locations and are considering installing Delta traffic controllers there in the near future.”

According to Floyd, the Delta MTC31 motorized traffic controller provides top protection against unauthorized vehicle traffic into or out of protected areas. It incorporates Sabre Tooth Control Teeth that are rotated into position by a highly reliable electromechanical system in less than 1.5 seconds.

“Although designed to control authorized traffic flow on a day in and day out basis, the system will severely damage or deflate the tires of unauthorized vehicles,” emphasizes Floyd. “The Sabre Tooth units prevent cars from being stolen from the lots. These rental cars are easily accessible to the public. With the new garage nearer the terminal, the airport has provided increased convenience for customers by eliminating shuttles and we had an opportunity to employ a higher level of security for the rental agencies.”

The controllers enforce one-way traffic flow for the new parking facilities. A torsion spring actuated Sabre Tooth positively controls traffic in one direction while permitting the free flow of vehicles in the other direction. Warning signs, also made by Delta, inform drivers of traffic direction.

Located at 425 North Brice Road in Blacklick, Ohio (43004), a Columbus suburb, Signature Control Systems also operates satellite sales and service centers in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo and St. Louis, Mo. Customers include industrial users, municipalities, colleges and universities, hospitals, public parking facilities, professional parking operators and private residences.
